____________________________________________________
The Llano County Courthouse is distinctive for its Romanesque Revival architecture featuring an offset masonry tower. Over the years, the growing county remodeled the building numerous times. By the 1990s, the original district courtroom had been sub-divided into offices and a much smaller courtroom. Building systems were dated and inefficient, finishes were worn, modern acoustical tile ceilings were failing, windows were weathered, and the courthouse failed to meet current building and life safety codes.
Using photographic evidence, county records, and remnants of original features, we were able to recreate the original roof and district courtroom. After completion of the main restoration, additional Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program grant funding was secured to reconstruct the original tower based on historic photographs.
